0021: “Kepler”

Postby CogitoSum » Fri Jul 02, 2010 2:16 am UTC

Alt: Science joke. You should probably just move along.

No Kepler thread existed.

It is this humour which causes me to fanatically check xkcd everyday, and ensures few of my friends will ever understand why (despite most of them knowing perfectly well who Kepler was and what he achieved).

Hahahaha, now I get it.

I bet he heard that exact terminology in his high school science class, too.

Y’know, I don’t think I got that the first time I read it, but that was before I took my first course in classical mechanics. Now…

…I’m misty-eyed!

What’s a “degree”?

EDIT: I looked it up on Wikipedia. Apparently it’s some ancient Babylonian unit for angles :/

It’s an instant classic… 3 years late.

I really like this kind of humour. More of this please.

Wow, this one took me a while. I think it’s been almost a year since I first read the strip, and it has bugged me on an off ever since. I had thought that it was a joke about Kepler himself, and didn’t see the “sweeps out the same area” pun.

I like how back then he thought he had to specify “Science joke, you should probably just move along.”

Look at the science jokes he makes now, with no such warning.

I got the joke, but I never liked it, since to me “sweeps out the same area” sounds like he only sweeps a small part of the store leaving the rest of it dirty…
